2/16 GFCC Rehearsal Cancelled
WCSH Storm Central just reported that we may have six hours of freezing rain tonight, 3-9 pm. So I'm afraid we need to cancel rehearsal again this week. Remember, our rehearsal sequence is almost a month longer in the spring than in the fall (Scott Miller pointed this out to me yesterday).
Section leaders: please email me and let me know that you've received this notice.
Please stay warm and safe!

GFCC REHEARSAL SUNDAY 2/9 CANCELLED
Dear Singer:
The National Weather Service predicts 6 inches through 1 pm on Sunday, so I am cancelling our rehearsal. There are several of us who have long drives and the wind will be up Sunday afternoon.
Jolaine Ricci reminds me to ask that you finish your surveys, either online or in person, and bring the paper copy to the next rehearsal.
Stay safe and enjoy the Superbowl. If, like me, you're not a football fan, watch this game instead. It's a clip from the movie I Love Melvin (1953). It stars Debbie Reynolds as a football--no kidding.

The lyrics for Mo Ghille Mear are now available on the web site along with a sound file of a native Irish speaker reciting them. From the "Members" drop-down menu, click on "Songs" to find them. |
FREE ELECTRIC PIANO TO A GOOD HOME
An elderly friend and her family are disposing of many items from her household, including an electric piano in good condition. It looks like a spinet, has three foot pedals, adjustable action and an array of different sounds. It's about 20 years old. I don't know the brand or model number. It's free, but you need to arrange to pick it up yourself.

GFCC January 19th Rehearsal CANCELLED
We have decided to cancel tonight's rehearsal due to the impending snowstorm. Remember that we will have our potluck next week on the 26th, starting promptly at 5pm. Stay tuned for more information from Jolaine Ricci and online sign-up sheets. Stay warm and safe! Stephen Farrand GFCC Board President |
Our first rehearsal for the 2025 season will be Sunday, January 12th, at 6pm in the Chorus Room of Freeport High School (30 Holbrook Street in Freeport). Newcomers are very welcome--we are a non-auditioned group and always looking for people who like to sing. Our dues are $70 per semester, $125 for two consecutive semesters or for a couple. You are welcome to come and try us out for a couple of weeks for free. Registration and music distribution will start at 5:15 pm in the Band Room (first door on the LEFT). This Spring we will be singing Celtic songs from the New World and the Old, including the Skye Boat Song (the theme from "Outlander"), Mo Ghile Mear (an Irish song about Bonnie Prince Charlie), the Gartan Mother's Lullaby, Loch Lomond, the Canadian Song for the Mira, and others, including a John Denver medley. |
